Congratulations to Carol Miller Media client Global Travel Management who won the 2016 Toast of Surrey Award for best business with a turnover above £5m. Horsell Community Choir

In a series of focused news campaigns, Carol Miller Media helped newly formed choir Horsell Community Choir attract interest and support. Through press releases and media contact work Carol Miller built interest and excitement around the amateur choir which achieved news reports in local newspapers and a local radio prime time interview. Carol maintained steady regular media contact on behalf of the choir so that the local newspapers and radio stations covered the choir’s annual concerts, with particularly strong responses by the larger publication, The Woking Advertiser, as well as BBC Radio Surrey and Sussex. Hitting well above its weight as an SME, Global Travel Management turned to Carol Miller Media to put in place its first formal Public Relations strategy to achieve local recognition. The CMM programme covered a range of communications activity that ensured recognition of GTM’s contribution to the Travel Management industry in national trade media, underpinning steady news coverage for its work as a successful business supporting the local community. This included GTM’s first entry to a business awards event, The Toast of Surrey Awards 2015, for which it won a finalist place. It achieved regional recognition as a successful business and for the high standing it holds among industry peers as well as its commitment to its workforce and customers. My skills and experience as a journalist are key to a wide range of PR and Communications strategies, including internal communications, now widely recognised as essential to ensure the success of any enterprise. Working for Waitrose I oversaw the growth and development of a weekly print publication The Waitrose Chronicle as well as the launch of an online magazine aimed at supporting and communicating with the people who work for this highly successful UK supermarket chain. Katie Macaulay, Managing Director of AB Communications, highlights my work in ‘From Cascade to Conversation’, a review of the development of internal communications over the last 25 years. Macaulay, an internal communications specialist, discusses ‘Why paper isn’t dead’ and says: “We look at how this infrequent, fixed and one-way medium can become conversational.
